Expedia.ca Launches French Site
French language customers can now create the trip that's right for them in their own language and fully benefit from Expedia.ca's convenience, value and flexibility
Toronto, ON - Nov. 19, 2002- Expedia Canada Corp., operator of Expedia.ca(TM), one of Canada's leading online travel services, today announced the launch of its new French site specifically designed for French Canadians. These customers will now have access to the best combination of online travel services offered in Canada in the language of their choice.
"We are very excited to be able to serve our French speaking customers in their own language,"said Stuart MacDonald, Managing Director, Expedia Canada Corp. during a press briefing."We believe we offer the most comprehensive and attractive range of online travel services in the Canadian market today and we expect this added language capacity to bring a significant number of new customers to us, while also improving the experience for existing customers."
Expedia.ca is the only online travel provider in Canada that combines charter and scheduled airline flights to popular Canadian and southbound destinations right into the flight search path. Also, Expedia.ca provides Canadians with the option of prepaying for hotels in Canadian dollars at over 7000 properties around the world, at prices up to 50 per cent off regular rates.
Expedia offers its totally unique"Expedia(R) Holiday Maker", which makes it easy for travellers to custom-create and price their own perfect trip - with the bundling of airfare, hotel accommodation and in-destination services at one attractive price. This dynamic"build-your-own"service is the most flexible trip planning experience on or off the Web. By purchasing an Expedia Holiday Maker vacation, Canadian travellers can often save significantly more money than they would by booking air and hotel separately.
Expedia also has the seals of TRUSTe and PriceWaterhouse Coopers, which clearly demonstrates the company's commitment to ensuring complete privacy of the information submitted by customers.
"We already have a solid base of francophone customers and we believe that the new French service will make a notable difference in the market,"commented MacDonald."Online travel services have shown a lower rate of market penetration in the French speaking market and we believe the availability of Expedia.ca's range of world-class services will provide them with the confidence to plan and purchase travel."
This optimism seems well founded. In a recent Expedia.ca survey conducted by Ipsos-Reid between October 28 and October 31, 2002 among Quebec residents, almost half (47 per cent) of all Quebecers 18 years or older had used the Internet in the past two years to research travel information, and 23 per cent say they have used the Internet to book and pay for travel in the past two years.
